Two years have passed since Pablo González was arrested and imprisoned in a high-security prison. In this sense, acts of solidarity have multiplied these days and Gernika has been one of the main quotes.
Hundreds of people, called for by the initiative of the Local Memory Forum Gernika, have met to demand the "immediate" release of the journalist for lack of evidence against him and for the press attack on freedom, according to the organizers: "That is why we say that freedom of the press is a fundamental right and must be defended. And, therefore, it is also up to us to defend Paul," they explain in the manifesto written in the Ekitalde. Furthermore, they have denounced the "loopholes" of the European Parliament and the Spanish Government.
At the end of the event, her partner, Oihan Goiriena, read in the vote a note by González: "I am many light-years away from you and the reality around you. For me there is no world beyond the prison block in which I am, I have not left here since the beginning of July. There is no human right, neither the European Union nor anything (...) I am not asking for special treatment, but rather to put aside its lies and its old stools in order to extend the time, because this has no justification."
On the other hand, journalists from different media in Euskal Herria have also met on Wednesday at the portals of their headquarters. The ARGIA team has done so together with members of the companies Antza and Iametza. Among other things, they have claimed the right to information and have shown their support to González and his family and friends in all these acts.
In Madrid, in addition to the seat of the Polish embassy, representatives of all political groups, except the PP and the Vox, have met on the portals of the Congress of Deputies at noon on Wednesday to request the freedom of González. Precisely, in that house, in response to a question from EH Bildu, the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albars, explained that he is in contact with the Polish Foreign Minister and that if there is evidence against González he has asked him to teach it.
In Barcelona they have also concentrated on the Plaza del Rey and have demanded a legal judgment "already" under the motto Fer Periodisme No És Delicte.
The case of González continues to resonate internationally. Thus, the International Federation of Journalists and the European Federation of Journalists call on the Polish authorities to release the journalist so that he can defend himself before the courts and have a fair trial: "We cannot understand that a democratic state in the European Union is holding a journalist in prison for two years without trial," they explain in the joint note.
Polish justice has recently extended Gonzalez's prison for an eighth time three more months, and family members say they are doing "psychological torture" because they are isolated 23 hours a day and there is little information about it.
