Call to mobilize on Friday to denounce the latest racist police attack in Bilbao

This Friday, May 9, a protest will be held in San Francisco, Bilbao (Vizcaya), to denounce the latest racist attack by the Basque Government in the neighborhood. The meeting, organized by different groups, will take place at 6:30 pm in the Plaza del Corazón de María. Not only will they support their friends who have been harassed by the police, but they will also condemn police impunity during the mobilization.
Two weeks ago, an attack took place in a barber shop in San Francisco, the Socialist Council of Bilbao reported this week: a group of gunmen violently entered the premises and attacked the people who were present, a local worker and a client. They were asked to identify him and one of them was punched by an agent, in addition to throwing his mobile to the ground. The two young men were then beaten by the police and held against the ground and the wall.
Collectives who have organized Friday’s protest have denounced that the latest attack in San Francisco is related to the “racist criteria” of the police forces, who consider that what happened shows that “the police act in an arbitrary way towards the migrated and racialized people.” "This arbitrariness responds to the criminalization and systematic oppression of the migrated proletarian, with the aim of imposing miserable lifestyles and eliminating fundamental rights," they explain.
And, they add, the incident is also "the result of police impunity": they believe that "despite repressive laws such as the Aliens Act, the police have the freedom to act beyond the limits of legality" thanks to "the unconditional support of the institutions and the judiciary". For this reason, beyond the border guards directly involved in the attack, the Department of Security of the Basque Government has been considered as the main responsible, recalling that such police attacks occur systematically in the neighborhood.
With the expansion of the call to mobilize on Friday, the organizers call on “the entire working class, regardless of its origin, to organize and fight in solidarity; from class unity, against racism, oppression and police impunity.”
