The crisis table of the Basque Government has slowed down: LAB and ELA will no longer go
- Both trade unions believe that the socio-economic table of the Basque Government, composed of trade unions, business associations and other social partners, is nothing more than "a proposal" and "interesting for capital".
The Executive of Iñigo Urkullu has convened a new meeting of the bureau on Wednesday, but, after previous experiences, ELA and LAB have decided not to attend this time because the Executive has not taken into account "none" of the trade union demands. It would then be the fourth meeting of the Socio-economic Bureau of the Basque Government.
According to Mikel Noval, Head of the ALS Bureau of Analysis, the table is "a mere propaganda tool. There is nothing to agree on. According to this union, they had previously had "disappointing" experiences in this regard, so they chose not to go to the demonstration. They denounce that it is reported at the table but does not go further and that more importance is given to the "image" than to the follow-up of the contributions made.
LAB has also indicated that the latest concentrations have been conducted "just to take photos" from the protests. The general secretary of the union, Garbiñe Aranburu, and the secretary of collective bargaining, Xabier Ugartemendia, have appeared at a press conference to assess their performance. "The Basque Government criticises the State Government and us too, because it takes decisions unilaterally and is imposing the centralization of public policies." Well, the government is doing the same, regardless of the needs of workers," Ugartemendia said.
This unilateral management is also very concerned with ALS, as the strategy of the Basque Government in the face of the pandemic has more to do, in his opinion, with "the view of the employers". Thus, he accused the administration of acting with "authoritarianism" and using "a single command" in the operation.
Garbiñe Aranburu, for his part, wanted to make it clear that "there are proposals" and "we do not give up the debate", but he explained that they want "discussion frameworks" to reach agreements that "cover the working class".
