In addition to the partners of the Israeli Government, many opposition parties have supported the plan for the destruction of the Gaza Strip, which is further away. The laws passed on Monday afternoon allow, if the expulsion of the UN agency UNRWA occurs, only humanitarian aid can be reached through the State or the Israeli Army. In other words, it will not come. So far, the only international hands have been, since 1967, within Palestine, those of UNRWA.

Since 7 October last year, the Israeli armed forces have killed at least 232 workers of the UNRWA agency. Despite criticism from the international community, Israel has not wanted to talk about such attacks; indeed, one minister had proposed that UNRWA should be expelled from the area. And the day came. 92 of the 120 parliamentarians voted in favour of the suspension of UNRWA. In particular, UNRWA has been adopted in a motion tabled by Jerusalem from the Occupied East, the West Bank and Gaza, among others. UNRWA offers education, health and other services where it operates.

Repealed a 60-year convention

The UNRWA Agency was created in December 1949 by the UN following the exodus that took place in Nakban in 1948. The claim by the State of Israel and the oppressive policies of the Israeli Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, ignited an international alarm and decided to intervene in the UN General Assembly.

Later, in 1967, during the Six-Day War, the Israeli Government, which had already occupied Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, signed an agreement with the UN that the UNRWA agency would be responsible for guaranteeing basic services to the Palestinians.
