Educational agents disagree with the Gasteiz Parliament Education Act
- The trade unions transferred their concerns to the Basque Parliament on Wednesday. Steilas, ELA and LAB, despite their proposals, denounce the lack of rigor. The Federation of Ikastolas has also endorsed the trade union complaint.
Steilas, ELA, LAB and Ikastolen Elkartea have transferred their doubts and criticisms to the draft of the new Education Law. Besides the lack of concreteness denounced by all, topics such as Euskera, advertising, gratuity and secularism have been addressed.
According to the information provided by the news, ELA and Steilas stress that they are against the draft bill. Ainhoa Astigarraga and Javi Kerexazu Steilas believe that the law will open the doors to privatization and denounce the inability to end segregation.
ELA says the bill does not guarantee real gratuity and laity: “On the one hand, because additional fees can continue to be charged and on the other, because there will be no room for the secular educational system.”
LAB spokesmen Irati Tobar and Amaia Urrutia have made concrete proposals in the Basque country. It says that the new Education Act should take up the process of improving and forming the Basque curriculum. Incidentally, he is in favour of demanding the Euskera level B2 students, but calls for “planning”. The president of the Ikastolas Confederation, Koldo Tellitu, also proposes to certify level B2: “Level B2 should be accredited by external evaluation.”
Demonstrations in capitals
