One in ten residents lives on less than 8,000 euros per year in the Southern Basque Country
- The situation of the inhabitants of Navarre and the Basque Country is one of the best in the Spanish State, according to data from the INE Survey of Living Conditions 2016. However, one in ten citizens of the Basque Country spends the year with less than 8.209 euros.
The risk of falling into poverty in the Basque Country and Navarre is 9%, the lowest in the Spanish State. However, the social exclusion risk rate is 15% in the Basque Country and 13% in Navarre. The risk rate of poverty in Spain is 22.3% and the risk rate of social exclusion is 27%.
The average income in the Basque Country also significantly exceeds that of the State. Each family in the Basque Country and Navarre earns 34,054 and 33,167 euros per year, respectively. In Spain, 26,730.
The data of the Southern Basque Country are therefore some of the best in the Spanish State. In any case, one in ten Basque citizens earns less than 8,209 euros per year. One in five people in Spain are at risk of living in poverty and almost three are at risk of social exclusion.
The communities with the highest poverty risk rates are Andalusia (35.4%), the Canary Islands (35%), Castilla-La Mancha (31.7%), Valencia (25.7%) and Murcia (24.5%).
