Faced with bad weather, many friends gathered in the Plaza de Andra María Blanca in Vitoria-Gasteiz to express their support for the members of the ZAD and to condemn the attempt to evict them.
They remember that in 2009 the Zadists started resistance; resistance for life and against capital, resistance against macro projects, resistance for the defense of the land... After 9 years, an eviction attempt has already been halted and together with the peasants and inhabitants of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, they have stabilized a huge community in the area.
“In view of the fruitful work carried out over these long years, as well as the news that in the last month the French Government will stop the construction of the airport, many of us could have imagined that this moment could be attempted, but it has come: The ZAD’s second eviction attempt began on Monday,” the callers said.
It is alleged that the press has not been allowed to enter the ZAD. The only images that can be disseminated are said to be taken by gendarmes.
“The situation does not surprise us; the government was unable to abandon the airport project under pressure from the ZAD and the citizens of Notre-Dame-des-Landes. If it had done so, it would have set a precedent that would have been too dangerous,” they say.
According to the ZAD, “we live in it, we have taken root and grown up in it. We are bound to these lands, to these forests, and we will not leave at all.” And in this sense, the meeting ends with the message of support: “In 2012 the state’s destructive irresponsibility did not succeed and this time they will not succeed either.”
The Bus
They've arranged a bus to ZAD. He leaves Friday at 14:00 from Errekaleor. The return will be on Sunday. The registration list will be at the Champions Bar.
