Eh Bildu not only calls for the resignation of Darpon, but also calls for the dismissal of the lehendakari of the Basque Country, Iñigo Urkullu, if the counsellor does not resign. He has therefore added an annex to the reproach of the counsellor who will be voting on 21 March in the Basque Parliament so that, if Darpon does not leave the government, Urkullu will withdraw it “immediately”.

The sum of opposition parties would make possible Darpon’s rejection, as EH Bildu, Elkarrekin Podemos and pp add up to 38 seats, one more than the PNV and PSE-EE, which the Basque Government supports. It seems that this time there is this sum, unlike what happened at the end of 2018, when for the PP it was enough for the CEO of Osakidetza, María Jesús Múgica, to leave her position.

Two are the main reasons for understanding the change in pp: That the prosecution has found evidence of crime in the case of Osakidetza and that there is an electoral climate that already prevails between the parties.

This combination may lead to the conviction of Darpon, but in the opinion of Rebeka Ubera (EH Bildu) it is not enough. The Abertzale parliamentarian has underlined the need to go one step further: Let the Basque Parliament formally urge Iñigo Urkullu to intervene if he does not go on his own. “Darpon is the main political responsible for this fraud to society as a whole,” Ubera said. In his view, it is necessary to send a "clear message" to society so that such practices do not recur.

It does not appear that the Government is about to change its approach at the moment. Spokesman Josu Erkoreka explained that the condemnation of the Basque Parliament would not be binding and that, therefore, it is possible that the government does not listen to it. The parties that make up the Basque Government have a deadline of 13 March to present alternatives to the sentencing document.
