On Friday, the documentary Caminho Longe, which premieres in cinemas in Barcelona and Euskal Herria, will reach the theaters of Hegoalde. From 22 to 28 January you will see in the Multicines room of Bilbao the film that tells the return of the deported Alfonso Etxegarai.
Alfonso Etxegarai (Plentzia, 1958), deported to the African island of Sao Tome, was a travel companion of Kristiane Etxaluze (Domintxaine, 1941), after 33 years of absence. In 2010, the couple told their story in the documentary Sagarren denbora. Caminho Longe is not the second part of the documentary, but counts the end of the exile and the return of Etxegarai.
The two works have been directed by Josu Martínez and Txaber Larreategi, and in both cases Hibai Castro has also taken over the direction of photography. Upon learning that Alfonso Etxegarai had to return home, the three went to Sao Tom and spent the last days of exile with Etxegarai and Etxaluze, recording the documentary.
The Adabaki Produkzioak group also has the collaboration of IPES, Gastibeltza Film and Zinez, and has been funded through the fundraising of the Verkami platform. Although it premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival, due to the pandemic, until January they were unable to present it to almost 400 people who have collaborated economically.
Now, you will have the opportunity to see yourself on the big screen in the cinemas of the capitals of Hego Euskal Herria and also in Barcelona. He will be in the Multicines theatres of Bilbao from 22 to 28 January.
