Two fishermen disappear in Ziburu, a sunken boat
- Two out of three fishermen have disappeared and what they have rescued has been treated at the hospital in Baiona under hypothermia.
The boat of three fishermen sank on Friday in Ziburu (Lapurdi), near the Zokoa dam. It appears that while the boat was at the Ziburu fish auction, it has diverted to 200 metres and hit the Zokoa dam, around 02:00 in the morning.
The mayor of Ziburu, Eneko Aldana, explained in statements to Euskadi Irratia that the rescue has been “complicated and hard”. A 30-year-old man and a 58-year-old man have disappeared and managed to rescue the third 40-year-old fisherman. He adds that he has been treated at the hospital in Baiona: “Water is at 12 degrees and has been found to be hypothermized.”
Two dozen firefighters, two helicopters and at least one rescue ship are engaged in search and rescue. The mayor says they will continue to investigate the incident.
