The essence of RIP: humility and crudety
The Arrasate RIP group perfectly embodied the Basque punk of the 1980s. The words written by the group described in the most brutal way that sociopolitical period and the music was also hard and direct. That was precisely what many young people at that time felt and lived. The quartet has a short record, but it's absolutely firm and convincing. That is why it is in the memory of many and its result is still alive from generation to generation.
Due to the character of the band's components, however, the discs were published late and, despite having occasion, never took any steps to make the group known. They always maintained their humble, street and punky character. Probably, therefore, until now, no written work on the group's history existed, unlike Eskorbuto and Scar. Just thirteen years ago to pay tribute to the RIP group, the DVD-CD documentary of the 25 years of living punk history, published by Goiena and Gaztelupeko Hotsak.
On this occasion, Judit Uriach and Nando Alonso, who perform the fanzine Toxic Silence, have produced the book of fanzine Larga vida a RIP with the help of Txerra from the RIP group and other people from Arrasate. It's 376 pages and it's very worked. Interviews with dozens of people from Arrasate-Mondragón, Euskal Herria, Catalonia and Aragon who, along with their testimonies, have travelled through the region of Arrasate. In this work, which is also having a great reception outside Euskal Herria, an attempt has been made to understand the context of the creation of the RIP, and it is a reference work to understand the progress of the group and the personality of its members.
To understand the concept of book fanzine it must be explained that at all times the authors have had very much in mind the nature and essence of the RIP, being thus the collective creation of the publication, the layout in the key of fanzine and the alternative way of sale and distribution.
In addition, the book includes a collection of gift CDs. Thus, several groups from Catalonia and Madrid close to the fanzine Toxic Silence and the Basque Country, mainly from Mondragón, have been invited to interpret songs from the RIP, a total of 27. Moreover, it is worth noting the recovery of two songs (The Rapist and The Pastor) that the RIP never published.
