Irun, in 1902. It was called Irun Football Club. It was one of the earliest teams in the area, partly because football entered France earlier than the southern border and partly because the English sailors brought the new sport. In 1907, the group adopted a new name: The Irun Sporting Club. But a year later, in 1908, the team split up and founded the Irun Racing Club. The rivalry between the two teams from then on was fierce, to the point of clashes between fans of both teams.

The Sporting Club was the first to participate in the Spanish Championship in 1912, but it did not go a long way. The following year, it was Racine's turn. The F.C. In the semifinal against Barcelona, the referee left six goals without value, but in the end the Irundas won 1-0. In the final, against Athletic, they equaled two after the extension. The match was played the next day, March 23, 1913, and the only goal of the Irundos gave them the first Copa del Rey.

The great victory was celebrated by all the Irundans, as well as by the fans of Sporting and, as such, they sowed the seed to unite the two teams. The union took place on May 9, 1915 and the name of the new group also came from that union: The Real Union Club.

From now on, with the fans united, the Real would be the enemy. And the first assault was at least for the Irundi: They beat Real 6-1 in the first match of the new name club.

In 1918, he won the Northern Championship and won a ticket to the Spanish Championship. He beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the final of the O’Donell Stadium and went to the border city for the second time. In 1922 the Madrileños were defeated again, but in the final they lost to Barcelona. In the final of 1924 they had Real Madrid ahead of them in the final of Atotxa. Only one goal allowed the Irundi to take home the third cup. And in the final of 1927 they won the fourth by defeating Arenas de Getxo, after being the executioner of the Madrileños again in the pre-final.

In 1928, coinciding with the creation of the Spanish League Championship, the decline of the Real Union began. Football became more professional and, little by little, the Irún players moved to more wealthy teams in the big cities. In the 1931-32 season, they were relegated to the second division and the team has so far failed to return to the first division.

But it is still among the top ten in the historic Spanish Copa del Rey palmares. And he's just proven to be capable of the feats of yesteryear.
