"Corruption cases accumulate year after year and the investigation and punishment mechanisms currently in place are not enough," says EH Bildu. That is why the coalition in the Basque Parliament has tabled a bill to create an anti-corruption office.
PNV, VOX and PSE-EE voted against. For example, the jeltzale Jon Andoni Atutxa said that the anti-corruption instruments that exist today form a "juicy" network and that there is no need for a new office. Elkarrekin Podemos voted in favour and PP+Cs abstained.
EH Bildu parliamentarian Josu Estarrona has presented the objective, arguing the lack of mechanisms for investigating corruption in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. EH Bildu parliamentarian considered it essential to set up an office to "detect, prevent, investigate and radicalise" corruption and irregular practices:
Corruption cases accumulate year after year and the investigation and punishment mechanisms currently in place are not sufficient.
That is why we are proposing the creation of an anti-corruption office.
The PNV and the PSE have, however, voted against.
