The camp began on May 16 and a visit was made to the feeding area for the birds. Those present said that in addition to seeing a lot of brown vulture, they had the opportunity to see the white vulture and the red mire. Although they know that the mamba walks in it, they did not see it during that visit. In the words of the participants, "this highlights the barbarity with regard to natural conservation of the establishment of a macro-level wind farm in an area of such high natural value, as it is known that these facilities have become an important cause of death of birds. According to the report published by Seo Birdlife, in the Spanish state between 6 and 18 million birds a year are killed by wind turbines, a barbarity".
While some enjoyed the birds of prey, a group of boys and girls of all ages approached the campsite from Vitoria-Gasteiz with a clam, crossing the green path of the traditional train.
All of them set up tents and a group prepared a “perfect” dinner: vegetable broth and hot chocolate.
The largest number of events were prepared for Saturday, which was the day with the highest participation. After breakfast, the attendees began the morning session with a dynamic of mutual knowledge: "We had the opportunity to explain the reasons for defending the territory and to get to know those around us."
Afterwards, they reviewed some of the important previous battles and attended to give testimonies of the members who had been involved in the battles against the Lemoiz nuclear power plant, the Pasaia superport and the Olazti incinerator. This is how the participants summarized the message they received at the conferences: "These three struggles were of great intensity, of great social support, and they managed to stop the three projects. Many important conclusions were reached, but the following two elements were highlighted. If the capitalist model is not overcome these projects will come back again and again, an example of this is the current push to give nuclear energy or the authorization they have received to start the incinerator again in Olaztí. In addition, the importance of intergenerational transmission was emphasized, that is, the need to transmit the experience of the struggles carried out to those who are currently working in the defense of the land."
In the afternoon they reflected on various forms of resistance and learned how to put some of them into practice.
The last round table of the day was chaired by members from Colombia, Salvador, Honduras and Palestine: "They explained to us what it means to defend the land in each country, stressed the importance of the struggle and put on the table the urgency of overcoming the current economic model," explained the participants. They point out that "each one of them gave great importance to carrying out the struggle in his own field, because, although they seem to be different realities, in the globalized world everything is linked. The great entrepreneurs of the northern hemisphere are causing the greatest destruction in the southern hemisphere (ecological, social and personal) and they brought us with their testimony, really very hard experiences."
After dinner, the night was acclimated by the Ecofeminist Song offered by the women’s group of Aramaio and the musicians Kojío Kon Pinsas.
On Sunday morning the participants had two options: a mountain march and a conference workshop to work on the legal area.
The participants at the mountain exit said, "The walk allowed us to enjoy the great natural value that the area has: most of our tour through forests made up of beech trees and, frankly, the shade of the trees was appreciated. Once again, the destruction that is being carried out in this natural area (the Laminoria quarry) and the ones that are intended to be carried out (wind, photovoltaic and AAV) are incomprehensible from the point of view of natural conservation, a vital issue in the current ecological crisis".
In the conference workshop, Raoul Servert first took the floor. In the words of the participants, "Raoul made an analysis of the current context and ended his agreement by denouncing the absurdity of the massive expansion of renewables at both the previous and the current macro level." Subsequently, the members of Real Estate explained the strengths and weaknesses of the struggles they have carried out in the legal field. They also explained the legal procedure in the fight against land destruction. The end of the conference workshop became a meeting between the audience and the speakers.
Lunch together marked the end of EH Bizirik’s first camp, after all the “tasks of leaving the village in the same state that they left us”.
