Technology to protect victims of male violence against aggressors does not work properly
- There are 68 women in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa who use an electronic device that protects them from male violence and their aggressor. However, the devices are not up to date as their 3G network.
The electronic device used by 68 women who have suffered male violence in Hego Euskal Herria to protect themselves from their aggressors is not updated at all. This device uses 3G technology and in many places is uncovered. From 2025 it will not be possible to use 3G.
These technological limitations hinder the location of the woman in cases in which the aggressor fails to comply with the removal order. The Diario Vasco has published that the device system works by GPS and is based on a second system called GSM when the signal is lost. However, both work according to coverage and once they are lost there is nothing to do.
The woman who has suffered the male violence has a device and the aggressor another device that aims to measure the distance between the two. If the aggressor gets too close, alert the woman and let her make calls.
Women using electronic devices have a medium, high or very high level of risk. According to data from April 2022, there are 37 in Bizkaia, 21 in Gipuzkoa and 6 in Álava. Twelve months later, the use of the devices decreased, since in Bizkaia six and in Álava two less.
