The UPV/EHU will not sign new agreements with CAF until it leaves the Jerusalem tram that violates human rights
- Several people met on the morning of 19 June at the headquarters of the Vicerrectorado de Gipuzkoa of the UPV/EHU to request the suspension of relations between the UPV/EHU and CAF in Ibaeta. The Vice-Chancellor of the Campus of Gipuzkoa, Agustín Erkizia Olaizola, has announced that the UPV/EHU will not sign new agreements with the company CAF until it leaves the Jerusalem light rail project.
The Basque multinational CAF is developing the construction of the Jerusalem tramway in contravention of international regulations. The leadership of the UPV/EHU decided in April to break with actors who do not respect human rights in Palestine. But the Ibaeta Governing Council of the UPV/EHU has expressed its intention to sign an agreement similar to that which it has at the Bilbao School of Engineering to create an CAF Centre also in Gipuzkoa. As the meeting of the Gipuzkoa Campus Board on 19 June initially planned to work on this proposal, convened by the BDS movement in Gipuzkoa and the EHU Palestine group, several people have been meeting at headquarters "UPV/EHU: No agreement with CAF! Under the slogan "Israeli Boikota."
Finally, they did not discuss the proposal at the meeting, but after the merger, the Vice-Chancellor of Ibaeta, Agustín Erkizia Olaizola, told them that the UPV/EHU will not sign new agreements with the company CAF, as long as it continues in the Jerusalem light rail project. The members of the BDS group have stressed that this is optimistic news and have "applauded" the decision of the Vicerrectorado de Gipuzkoa and have demanded the Rectorate of the UPV/EHU to suspend its alliance in the Bilbao School of Engineering and to break its relations with the companies AXA and HP.
