Iñigo calls for justice in the possible closure of the Cabacas case
- Hundreds of people took to the streets yesterday afternoon, December 1, to demand "an end to the injustices" in the case of Iñigo Cabacas and show their support for their relatives and friends. Judge Ana Torres will decide next week whether to prosecute or file the case.
Family and friends fear the closure of the investigation into the Cabacas case because they “expect the worst,” archiving the case. Precisely on Tuesday, December 6, the six-month extension of the investigation phase ends and, as a result, Judge Ana Torres will have to decide whether to proceed with the trial or file the case next week. Faced with this situation, the relatives and friends of Iñigo Cabacas fear the closure of the investigation and consider the possible archiving of the case "injustice". For this reason, yesterday afternoon a demonstration was held with hundreds of citizens through the streets of Bilbao, under the slogan Iñigo Cabacas no more injustice.
The march began in the same place where Iñigo Cabacas was wounded, in the alley of María Díaz de Haro, and throughout the route there were cries that demanded "justice for Iñigo".
Upon arriving at the Bizkaia Palace of Justice, David González, member of the platform Iñigo Memoria, said that it has been 4 years and 7 months without Iñigo, "without justice". Although they managed to extend the investigation phase for six months, he recalled that "the indemnity is not a trial, Iñigo has not yet had a trial and may never have had one".
In fact, the investigation phase was due to end in June, but the family defense lawyer requested an extension of this because “not all the tests were done and the whole truth is not known.” At that time, two appeals were filed; the first to demand the imputation of the head of the border, known by the nickname of Ugarte; and the second, in El Correo, they offered an interview to demand the re-declaration of the accused police officers. They said that on the day that Iñigo was wounded in that interview, more gunmen opened fire, although they did not say so in front of the judge.
Six months after the appeals were lodged, they strongly denounced that "they have not received any response", stressing "the lack of respect for the family".
