Irregularities in the health protocol
Last fall, in early November, there was an outbreak of COVID-19 that affected nine out of twelve users, so the center confined all residents. On the first visit of the foral inspection, on 11 November 2020, at least 32 irregularities were detected in the health protocol. The virus has caused two deaths at the residence, according to the Basque Department of Security.
According to the newspaper Eldiario.es, they did not have enough staff and, after caring for patients with COVID-19, maintained contact with those who were not sick. A day later, a new inspection was carried out in which other irregularities were detected, such as the presence of posters in the "semi-isolated" rooms, in which the users of these rooms could be quarantined on their own. A woman was found tied without motive in her bedroom. The workers stated that they had tied the woman so that she could maintain her isolation and that she would not go outside. The Inspectorate notes that managers acted in this way because they lacked personnel to meet the needs of people with wrong behaviors.
