Mid-term elections have been held (and counted) in the twelfth most populous country in the world. It will not be possible to say that the knots that he had previously had have been released. Maybe they weren't even more crowded. Yes, in plain sight.
Having been colonizing them for some time, and having a similar (but six-year intervals) model of U.S. governance to that of their paternal counterparts today, midterm elections were due to be held in the Philippines on May 12 of this year, which was launched in 2022. Not the president, but the half of the senate, the whole lower house, and thousands of mayors, etc. to choose from. Participation, comparable to that of three years ago, has been exceptional for mid-term mandates; and, as usual, we have had to wait about a week to find out the results.
It wasn't a trivial procedure, though. And there was expectation outside the country as well. Because the past three years have been really eventful, after the violent mandate that preceded Rodrigo Duterte. “Bongbong” won the tandems agreed by Marcos Jr. and Duterte’s daughter Sara Duterte, easily, from 2022. But everyone was aware that they were weddings so they wouldn't have to kill each other.
This is how it happened: The clash between the Marcos-Romuinternationally and the Araneta and Duterte clans has been constant since day one; and the current situation is an excellent example of this: Former President Rodrigo Duterte is stationed in The Hague, dispatched by Bongbong, as responsible for crimes against humanity committed during the “war on drugs.” And his daughter Sara awaiting a political trial in the Senate... They say it's because he's prepared to kill President Marcos. (You will remember: last November Sara reported that if she was killed, she had already given orders to kill Marcos; hence the matter, and considering the Philippine background, it is not a question of defamation.) I mean, killing each other isn't a metaphor.
One of the decisions was the verdict of the electorate in this dispute. Marcus did not win. The impeachment of Sara Duterte in the Senate is almost without possibility; and the immense victory of her imprisoned father and brother in the fortress of Davao shows that the clan's season is not unimportant, at least there. But it’s not just about the Davao and the Duterte: whether in art or in form, Filipino politics is still in the hands of some powerful oligarchic clans today. And for this reason, the detailed reading of the results has many nuances.
It's not just a house inside. The Marcos-Duterte conflict also has an outward facet due to relations with China and the region as a whole. As in the past, the Marcos clan has chosen to be the head of the American ram, and perhaps this also has something to do with the election results.
But... does Marcos Jr. seem to have a chance to go back now to form those bridges that he would like to rebuild with Sara? He doesn't have a sweet job.
Maybe it's a coincidence. But when Xi Jinping announced that she was going to make a state visit to Vietnam on 12-13 December, the South China Sea Read has turned as if someone had incited. First, a clash between U.S. boats and the Chinese army around Second Thomas/Fastgin... [+]
