- “The patient became pregnant and gave birth to a baby unexpectedly.” Someone – I suppose a man – wrote in an office this headline, thinking that it perfectly described what had happened, about a woman who has been in vegetative state for ten years. In another office, someone else had seen no impediment to publishing it. Getting pregnant. Give birth by chance.
Before that, for nine months, those in charge of a hospital ignored a woman who has been in a vegetative state for ten years a life that exaggerated her womb every day, in the secret hope that maybe they could turn off for themselves and eliminate without startling a fetus that would have been halfway away. For nine months they refused to draw a single logical conclusion, because before that, one or more of the men of that hospital decided – or had – that that woman in a vegetative state was not a care and a human being worthy of her, but a piece of meat that she could – or had – use for her enjoyment. Know when they decided. Who knows how many?
Now, in another office, another man has written – and has published a newspaper – that the police are investigating whether that woman who has been in vegetative state for ten years has been raped. The worst thing is that it may be true, that the police do not investigate who raped her, but if she has been raped, as if it were another way of conceiving a woman who has been in vegetative state for ten years.
Those who raped her, those who turned a blind eye, those who divided the situation, those who investigate who knows what and how. I don't know exactly what the culture of rape is, but I think if there's something like that, it has to be.
