The European Parliament has adopted a non-binding proposal with the aim of ending gender inequality and distributing wealth between men and women in a more balanced way.
In the opinion of parliamentarians, the lack of a gender perspective in fiscal policies increases inequalities in employment, pensions and wealth. They have also pointed out that promoting the incorporation and cessation of women into the labour market is hampered and contributes to maintaining heteropatriarchal stereotypes.
The representative of Catalonia in Comú/Verdes, Ernest Urtasun, said that “we cannot be one more minute in tax matters without any gender perspective”.
“We have had a very timid legislature on equality, but this proposal, based on a gender equality agenda that must be ambitious, allows us to go to the attack,” added Urtasun.
