SOS Kurkudi denounces that the City of Leioa has concealed the report in favour of the EFTA megagimnasium
- As reported by the SOS Kurkudi platform, the Mayor of Leioa received the report of the Committee on the Management of the Territory of the Basque Country on 9 February, but since then "has concealed this information to the whole of the people of Leioa". As you have explained, the report you got thanks to the opposition councillors shows your support for a 25,000 square metre sports project on Mount Kurkudi.
Thanks to the cooperation of the opposition councillors of the City of Leioa, the Committee on Regional Planning of the Basque Country has obtained the resolution of SOS Kurkudi with a report on the project they intend to carry out in the convent of the Dominicans. In it, the committee supports the constructive project of a private sports club of 25,000 square meters. The members of the platform regretted that "it is bad news for those of us who defend sustainable urbanism and the protection of natural soil", as it leaves open the possibility of the project finally being approved.
In addition, they indicate that Mr. Mayor was aware of this report since 9 February: "The mayor has hidden that information from all the people of Leioa and not just the 7,000 people who signed the manifesto in favor of the natural land of Kurkudi." It should be recalled that on 27 July 2021 the platform requested information on the state of the procedure from the Basque Government’s Department of Territorial Planning, but since then they have not received any reply.
Despite the bad news for the platform, they have affirmed that they have "courage and conviction to be faced with a just cause" and that they still have ways to defend themselves, among them the possibility of recourse to the administrative path and turn to citizen mobilizations.
On the other hand, they have announced that in the coming days they will meet and take a decision to determine "whether the response to the new situation was the most effective". They have also announced that they will continue to spread the consequences of this "megagimnasium", as "it would only benefit the Dominico AtuchaSL-Metropolitan triplets".
