Those who have appealed against the construction of the HELEP have created a serious situation, according to Batera. Now he has asked them by letter to “fix the situation” that has arisen. “We are angry and bored with the campaign being carried out against the People’s College,” they said in front of the press.
The opponents – three elected members of the steering committee: In the Bidart case, Emmanuel Alzur,Biarritz’s elected Guy Lafite and Anglet’s Jean-Pierre Laflaquière, among others- after the decision of the French Minister of the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve, to reject the first appeal, appealed to the administrative court and the decision of the Prefect of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques was brought to trial.
The fact is that, paradoxically, some of those who have appealed participate in the steering committee that should create the College: "An elected official has the right to disagree, but he must accept the principles of democracy; a majority has opted for the creation of a single urban college, but they do not want to give up," said Joint Member Mixel Berhokoirigoin.
Batera calls for a "solution" to the impatience caused by the members of the steering committee. At this meeting, he sent a letter to the chairman of the steering committee, Jean-René Etchegaray, and to the presidents of the ten local councils.
On Tuesday, 20 January, at 5:00 p.m., Batera called on the citizens to meet in front of the Bayonne delegation of the Departmental Council.
