21 June 2003,
The first issue of the Berria newspaper was published. After the forced closure of the Euskaldunon Egunkaria newspaper, 151 workers created the company Euskarazko Komunikazio Taldea, with the aim of publishing a new newspaper in Euskera. Mainly in Euskal Herria, but also abroad, thousands of shareholders contributed five million euros to guarantee the existence of a national newspaper in Euskera. After Eguna, Euskaldunon Egunkaria and Eguna, the Basque newspaper Berria reached the kiosks and the 50,000 copies of the first issue were exhausted.
