Germán 40 years
I don’t know exactly when this article will see light, but I imagine that by the time it comes out, the act of July 8, 2018 will take place in memory of the 40th anniversary of the death of Germán Rodríguez.
I have no doubt that the Town Hall Square will be filled to the limits, as the year has been fruitful and many events have been held, of all kinds, to make this last tribute a success; not in vain, the preparations began a year and a half ago, in autumn 2016.
The meaning, intention, objective and consequences of the aggression that took place on 8 July 1978 are well known and quite clear to anyone who does not endeavour to look at reality with wooden glasses. They were, of course, dramatic moments that marked the future of our city for many years.
From 1978 until today, every 8 July, there have been friends, relatives and, without further ado, all Locals who asked for truth, justice, reparation and assurance that it would not be repeated.
Forty years without
ever missing
However, 1978 is on site. But since then, year after year, on the struggle and the commitment of all those who have tried to keep Germán’s memory from going out: exemplary, with a great commitment, which has experienced difficult and hard times. How many times did they shatter, soiled and painted the trail in memory of Germán? It has been renewed and re-established so many times. From 1978 until today, every 8 July, there have been friends, relatives and, without further ado, all Locals who asked for truth, justice, reparation and assurance that it would not be repeated. Forty years, I had never failed. For forty years, the memory of what had happened and the absence of friends who were missing for one reason or another had moved them.
Thanks to them, the chain has not been broken, and today, the forty years of Pamplona that are at the best time in their lives, they also know about the attack they suffered forty years ago.
But, to echo the words spoken by the Sanfermines 78 Gogoan collectives under the new monument that has been placed, let us say that on 8 July 2018 nothing is over; we will continue to claim the truth, justice and reparation, because we are already more all the victims – all – affected, without knowing how and why those of us who believe that a just coexistence cannot be built.
