Osakidetza launches Primary Care Services for Trans People
- The aim is to update the healthcare protocol for trans people in the Basque Country.It will be based on a network formed by the Primary Care Team (LMAT), the new Primary Care Service for trans people (tLMAZ) and professionals from the Gender Identity Unit (UTI) at the University Hospital of Las Cruces and each territory of the Basque Country will have its own network.
Osakidetza announces the launch of the Primary Care Services for Trans People this year. However, before this measure is carried out, it is indicated that a health care guide for trans people will be published in accordance with Law 4/2024 on the non-exclusion of trans people on the basis of their gender identity and the recognition of their rights. The final objective is to update the healthcare protocol for trans people in the Basque Country. The information was made public by the Open.
The guidelines provide for the treatment of the following topics: recommendations for action in medical transition processes, definition of circuits and the rights of trans people. The guide is reported to have been developed by hand by associations of health care professionals and transsexuals and families.
The Director of Health Care, Maite Martínez Zabaleta, points out that it is essential that the AP teams welcome trans people and accompany them throughout the process, which will allow them to provide care in a friendly and close environment.
The tLMAZs will be composed of psychologists with training in the field of gender diversity. Their mission will be to provide psycho-emotional support to users and their families and to work in coordination with professionals from the LMAT and the ICU, among others.
