Israel Also Fires Doctors and Assistants Who Are Smuggling Palestinians
  • “I was properly identified and where I needed to be, I’m very experienced. Shooting the sniper at me was not a mistake.” This is how the Canadian doctor Tarek Loubani recounts the moment when the Israeli army shot him in the leg while he was scolding the wounded Palestinians during the protests in Gaza on Monday. In the shooting, Loubani's assistant was killed by the Israeli military. Since the beginning of the protests, the World Health Organization has reported 229 attacks against doctors and auxiliaries.

He was dressed in a green surgical uniform and accompanied by paramedics wearing bright orange petals when Loubani was shot. That's why it sure wasn't a coincidence. In addition, both the World Health Organization and Médecins Sans Frontières have denounced that Israel is also targeting health professionals.

According to the latter organization, the situation of hospitals in Gaza is chaotic. Israel ' s blockade policy paralyses its hospitals and, as a result of recent protests, almost all its resources have been exhausted. They warn that hospitals are “close to collapse.”
