Bilbao’s Iñaki Ellakuria captured by truck in the Berlin bombing

Iñaki Ellakuria has a broken tibia and a broken fibula in one leg and the ankle and also the hip in the other leg. He suffered "the worst pain ever suffered" when he was hit by the truck in the attack on the Christmas market in Berlin on Monday night. "I heard the truck hitting the first cassette," the young Eramus scholar explains on his Twitter account (@hinak). "When I turned, I was face to face. It was going very fast."According to Iñaki, the truck "has hit all the cassettes and all the people."

Iñaki has suffered a lot of pain, "unbearable", until he was treated at the Krankenhaus hospital. Now, "thanks to the drugs," he says, "it's okay."

Iñaki is a student at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He is doing internships with the Erasmus grant in Germany. At the time of the attack he was accompanied by two people, also Basques, at the Christmas market in Berlin.

In order to "condemn the attacks" in Berlin and Ankara and "show solidarity with the families and friends of the victims", the Bilbao City Council invites the citizens to participate in the silent five-minute rally that took place at noon on the external steps of the City Hall.The initiative has been led by Mayor Juan Mari Aburto, with the rest of the Municipal Corporation with him. The mayor wants the people injured in the attack to "recover as soon as possible".
