In line with the call of the Spanish state, the mobilization has brought together thousands of people who wanted to make it “clear” that “the solution to the housing problem will not come from the politicians who finance the real estate business, but from the organization and the struggle for effective improvements to reduce the profits of the real estate sector.”

At the end of the demonstration, the Socialist Housing Union read a statement denouncing that housing has become a key factor in the “impoverishment of the working class.” According to the organization, rising prices, difficulties in renting or buying, and the increase in evictions are symptoms of a structural problem: “Our misery is their wealth.”

The union says the housing problem is a problem for the working class only as long as “everything goes well for employers and tenants.” They warn about the impact of the housing problem on certain groups, such as “young workers, who cannot be emancipated” and “racialized and migrated people, who face poverty and real estate racism.”

The spokesmen criticized the organizations’ responses to the problem and said that “giving more power to the entrepreneurs responsible for the problem” could not be a solution. They denounce that the current political measures “strengthen the real estate business” and others, such as the cancellation of evictions, are “false” or insufficient: “To raise prices more slowly is not to lower them, but to ensure that they impoverish us more slowly.”
