"You have cut off the plea of Microsoft's AI CEO, yelling, and you have made serious allegations against him as well as against the company," the tech multinational Microsoft announced to its employee Ibtihal Aboussad that he had fired him from the company, according to The Verge. Aboussad worked in the company’s artificial intelligence department as a software engineer. In fact, the head of that department, Mustafa Suleyman, cut the deal on Friday at Microsoft’s 50th anniversary event in the city of Redmond, USA.
"You claim that you want to use artificial intelligence for good, but then you sell it to the Israeli army. 50,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel during the genocide in Gaza," Aboussad Suleyman complained as he stepped on the stage. After the incident he told the news agency EFE that he and several of his colleagues do not want to make "a code to kill Palestinians" and explained that he was not concerned about his future work: "This fear is no greater than the fear of working in a company that kills innocent people."
In addition to Aboussad, another employee denounced the role of Microsoft in the massacre against Gaza: Vaniya Agrawal cut off the appointment of Satya Nadella, CEO, at another Microsoft event on Friday. According to NBC, Agrawal also worked as a software engineer, who has also been fired from the multinational.
The Technology Company with the Closest Relations with Israel
The BDS movement – Boycott, Divestment and Punishment for Israel – explains on its website that Microsoft is the technology company that plays the most important role in the genocide that Israel is carrying out in Gaza: among other things, they offer artificial intelligence and other technological services to the Israeli government, the army and the country’s prisons, according to BDS, Israel uses these services to “strengthen genocide and war crimes against Palestinians.”
