Parents of D-model students are mobilizing against an extra hour of English that the Department of Education wants to impose on them in the D-PAI model. Meetings were held yesterday in Tafalla and Olite and tomorrow there will be a protest in front of the Parliament of Navarre for the same reason.
In the case of Tafalla, it has been nine years since the model D was installed in the public school of the town, because there was demand in the town. Because at first it was shared with the English language, the Basque language gave rise to doubts among the families because it was not clear if the immersion in the Basque language would be achieved. Currently, there are 139 students. Their families do not want an extra hour of English because that will be detrimental to the Basque language. A meeting was requested from the Department of Education on 14 March, but no reply has yet been received. In contravention of the provincial law that the Department intends to establish, 155 families have been signed, that is, 87% of the students have been signed by their parents.
Protests and Signature Collections
The students and parents of Tafalla met yesterday as well as those of the D-PAI model of Olite. The school in Olite has 50 students who believe that there is no pedagogical or linguistic argument for this change.
Tomorrow, families from the schools of Tafalla, Sarriguren, Lokintxuri, Noain and Puente de Puente will gather in front of the parliament at 09:00.
