Anti-Razist demonstration in favour of the neighbours of the San Sebastian Inferno district
  • The police operation carried out last week in the Ibaeta Infernua district of Barakaldo has gathered dozens of people in a demonstration called by the Infernua Bizirik platform. The march has departed from the bus station of Hell, maintaining the safety distances between people, and has slowly headed towards the Boulevard. Throughout the demonstration, it has been reported that the police operation was “racist”, and throughout the course there has been a proliferation of cries such as ‘No one is illegal’ or ‘anti-racists’. The Municipal Police, the Ertzaintza and the Spanish National Police identified 62 people in an operation involving a total of 375 personas.SOS Racism and the Citizen Welcome Network condemned the operation.

Upon arrival at the Boulevard, a number of Hell's neighbors have gone up to the newsstand and read a statement in several languages. A neighbour of the pavilion abandoned by the police has spoken and denounced the criminalization suffered by people living in Hell, as well as the actions of the police officers in the police operation were very different from those of some ethnic groups and others. He also stressed that this is not the first time such an operation has taken place, and that the infernus, many of them in vulnerable situations, have been "a political strategy" to get out of it. Moreover, he said that the agents did not want to show them any documentation, and he criticized the attitude of some media outlets on the subject: “The media has had a propaganda attitude towards us and we are not criminals; the pavilions are not abandoned, they are occupied.” In the end, he claimed that they want to survive: “We didn’t come to break the beautiful image of the city, we came to survive. We don’t want revenge, we want justice.” The statement has subsequently been read in Arabic, English and French, and the "white transmaribollos collective" of Hell has denounced the racist behaviour of the police. As they have explained, the police never have problems with them, although, like the rest of the population, they live in the area.
