According to EiTB, Osakidetza has prescribed unnecessary medicines to deal with this scourge that mainly affects children under two years of age. In addition, they have announced that the new project will make it possible to reduce drug abuse in schools by more than 50 per cent.

The project has taken into account the experience of the families of children who have suffered from this disease. According to EiTB, considering only Bizkaia, between 2017 and 2018 2,600 cases were treated in primary care and 1,500 other pediatric emergencies, of which 12% had to be hospitalized.

There is no effective medication against bronchiolitis, but there are practical guidelines for diagnosing and treating it.

Pediatrician Marta Montejo, who has led the project, has told EiTB that there is a tendency to prescribe too many medications in cases of bronchiolitis, although her practice is contrary to the recommendations of clinical practice.
