Iñaki Bilbao has spent ten years in solitary confinement in the Puerto III prison in extreme conditions. On May 22, the first phase of the first degree was applied and a communication that he had authorized was suspended. It was then that he decided to go on hunger strike and close down.
The decision, however, is not to respond to these measures, but to fight for “independence and socialism.” “The only possible alternative with this strong protest is to continue fighting,” the Pro-Amnesty and Anti-Repression movement said in a statement.
The movement has an ongoing support campaign and on Saturday a demonstration will be held in Bilbao to denounce this situation.
