The full reading of Arabako Mendia Aske is as follows:
"Democracy. De-mo-kra-zi.
How many times have we been deluded, advised, deceived, manipulated or rejected by this concept?
How many times do we listen, ask, desire, reclaim and assume?
This term was invented in this territory over two thousand years ago and from it came almost everything that identifies what today is known as Western civilization.
This wonderful idea, if carried out in its entirety, is undoubtedly one of the greatest accomplishments of our species. And it is precisely this construction that owes much of its success to its ability to generate ideas and realities that did not exist before.
However, this same species is an expert because it becomes a straw fire even the supreme principles, since large slips lead to total inempathy, passion for power and domination, to greed and to supremacist tendencies to despise individuals and society in general, their subjects or what they represent.
We cannot continue to describe these places as democracies, where:
- The independence of the powers that is unscrupulously broken.
- Whether 51 per cent of the population continues to be discriminated against officially or practically.
- Continuing to harmonize, and even support, clearly racist strategies and actions.
- With the greatest possible number of arguments, it is intended to limit the margins of freedom of thought and action so as not to compromise the power of a dominant oligarchy, which, despite any political change, cannot be expelled.
- The State uses the monopoly of force to destroy the very core of democracy, which must be based on people ' s real freedom.
- If freedom of expression is suppressed and genuine social engineering based on the abyss of lies and post-truth is sought.
- If cultural diversity is cut off, the resilience of the species is guaranteed and uniformity is achieved without empowerment.
- The creation of legal instruments to protect these troops from the risks they face, precisely on genuinely democratic values.
- Their territories and people are being violated for possible well-being. A well-being that not only collects benefits for a few, but also becomes impoverished and generates elements that, for most, are easily dopamine.
So how far does the disgrace of some reach, stretching the concept of democracy and making it jokes and making people believe that they really live in a democratic environment?
It is sad that in 2024 we must cry out to the four winds, without freedom of thought, opinion and expression, for privacy, free movement, without rights of protest, without empathy with the rest of human beings and with the species that live on Earth, without artistic freedom or with an ecosystem of full power, without democracy.
We are here today because they are unfortunately going to judge our colleague Rebeka, precisely for defending many of those democratic essentialities which cannot be renounced in a committed, daring, honest and decisive manner.
We have to say 'enough' in this case, in which the government, empowering day and night the democratic virtues, places the police forces at the service of an electric oligopoly to condition and trample also the free access to natural spaces of public property, spaces conquered by private infrastructures that do not comply with the law, such as the tower of measurement of the wind, situated around events.
This same government, on the other hand, is discredited by the pompous acts on climate change that are being put in place to applaud the heroes of other peoples and latitudes, who bear all kinds of threats, insults, mockery and sanctions to defend their territories from the plundering of the big multinationals. Amazing cynicism, right?
For this shameful decadence, that government, which is said to be so democratic, uses a law of its own from dictatorial regimes, which, even more shameful, tries to repeal or not to undermine much of the political class.
No, under no circumstances will we be silent, because defending our territory is not a crime, but a pure democracy, a democracy of survival and real well-being.
No to the Mordaza Law!
Always go ahead Rebeka!
Always with you!
Nine years ago, pending the adoption of the Mordaza Law, the Council of Europe itself said that the law was going to be “disproportionate” and its “great concern”. “This law is a reactionary and conservative absurdity to criminalize street protest and criticism,”... [+]
