November 19 is World Bathing Day. Even today, in the twenty-first century, many workers here in the Basque Country do not have the right to use the toilet in their working days. Many transport workers are an example of this.
Toilets are the key to public health and play a fundamental role in protecting the environment. Sanitation and clean water are human rights and access to them is essential to human health and environmental integrity.
Leaving so many people without safe toilets poses a risk to workers in this sector and especially to women, who pay the highest price in terms of health and insecurity.
Private companies and parliamentarians do not offer a toilet or decent sanitation service for safe and rapid use, which violates the human rights of transport workers.
A bathroom can give a little detail, but it is essential for the workers and not for the private companies that provide the service, nor for the Member, who is the last responsible, seems to be of no importance. Private companies and parliamentarians do not offer a toilet or decent sanitation service for safe and rapid use, which violates the human rights of transport workers, in addition to labour rights. In addition, these workers do not have all the time available to be able to use it, often use it to a certain extent and in a fair, or have no choice after having made the complete journey.
The toilet has several risks; maintaining the desire to go to the bathroom poses a significant risk to the safety of workers and citizens (who carry their lives in transport), as it can impair their cognitive function, which could have negative consequences in the transport sector. Because of its risks, Royal Decree 486/1997 of 14 April, laying down minimum health and safety requirements in workplaces, provides in Annex V, concerning hygiene services and rest places, the presence of toilets in workplaces and the possibility of using toilets and toilets in workplaces when they do not perform their work in a work place is not built, when their position is not.
At LAB we are clear that all workers must have at our disposal the appropriate toilets and sanitation systems, of good quality and spaces suitable for their needs. We are going to fight not to deny that right.
