The Prosecutor's Office has asked the Ertzaintza to produce a report on the UPV/EHU professor who has disseminated "fascist messages". The investigation of the case has been carried out with the aim of investigating in depth and analysing whether there has been a crime of hatred.
At the end of September, student protests against the Leioa Campus professor began. Under the motto '. In the mobilizations, the students demanded the “immediate expulsion” of the teacher and made it clear that “attacks on the working class and vulnerable groups have no place in the university”. According to the statements collected by Leioatik!, the students firmly affirmed that “the rise of fascist ideas must be addressed through the organization of the working class”.
Following the demands of the student movement, the UPV/EHU announced that it would open the procedure foreseen in the Protocol against Gender Violence. The University's Director of Equality made the decision in early October, arguing that the messages disseminated "do not respond to the principles and values of the university". During the closing of the process, the organization stated that, as an interim measure, the person concerned had been denied the provision of classes. The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has stated that it wishes to close the administrative procedure opened against the teacher next week and that they will make known the decision taken.
The UPV/EHU has filed a complaint and sent messages from the teacher’s social media to the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate whether it is a hate crime. The Prosecutor ' s Office of Gipuzkoa has admitted the case and several media have reported that the Ertzaintza is investigating the case by order of the Prosecutor ' s Office in Gipuzkoa. In principle, after the completion of the police report, the Prosecutor’s Office would have a period of six months to decide whether or not to file a complaint against the professor.
