The dead man and his partner had been renting this house for eight years. Faced with the difficulties they had to pay, the Banco Popular, which owns the house, filed a lawsuit in November. The eviction was originally planned for March, but has been suspended twice. The last, after the social services of Cornella sent the court a report on the situation of the family. This report indicated that the couple was on the waiting list for social housing.

The High Court of Catalonia has stated that the City Council knew that the eviction would take place today. The City Council confirmed and reported that “another report was sent yesterday that reported on the situation of vulnerability of these two people” and indicated that they are considering taking legal actions.

The Barcelona Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) and the Union of Tenants have described the death as a “murder”, indicating that the incident has political and economic responsibility. The call to organize mobilizations has been extended to all PAH groups in the Spanish State.
