Maialen Larralde was murdered with guillotine in San Juan de Luz. He was murdered accused of deserting the army during the war between France and Spain, which fought mainly in the Basque Country and the Pyrenees. Born in Sara, he was 35 years old when he was a prisoner and worked at Bera as irule.

From March to October 1794 the French authorities carried out a harsh repression in Lapurdi: More than 3,000 people left their homes and were forcibly sent to Landeta, where they committed numerous burns, robberies and abuses. It was four years after the legal withdrawal of the forces from the continental Basque Country and an estimated 1,600 robbers were killed.
