Women in Canada acquired legal status

In Canada, women acquired the status of legal persons. Until then, they used the constitutional ambiguity of 1867 to exclude women, since in singular the Constitution only referred to men. Five women gained recognition as people through the initiative: Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise Crummy McKinney and Irene Parlby.
