The Pamplona journalist and writer Juana Mir García was shot by the Francoists in Derio. She was one of the few women who wrote in the press during the Spanish Republic. In the column “Woman writes” of the newspaper “The Afternoon” of Bilbao, he was arrested and sentenced to death for writing five articles denouncing Francoist cruelty, including the bombings of Gernika and Durango, accusing him of “propagandist of separatist reds.” He was 44 years old.
