José Miguel Beñaran Ordeñana Argala was born in Arrigorriaga. He was one of the most prominent members of ETA and marked the political and organic line of the organization, especially in the 1970s. He participated in the most important actions of the armed group, such as the launch of Carrero Blanco, head of the Spanish Government, in operation Ogro. He was killed on December 21, 1978, at the age of 29, ordered by the secret services of Spain in Angelu, unleashing his car.
