José Luis Alvarez Enparantza Txillardegi was born in Donostia. Despite being Basque parents, he learned the language on his own in 1948. During his studies in Bilbao he participated in the creation of the Ekin group, which would later be ETA. In the literature, it is his own hidden journal of Leturia, considered the first modern novel in Basque. It was also one of the main drivers of the unified Basque country, convinced that territorial unity begins with linguistic unity. He dedicated his life to the defense of the Basque Country and the Basque Country.
