Abd el-Krim dies, leader of resistance to the Rif politician and colonialism. He faced Spanish and French colonialism during the war. The Spaniards also used toxic gas and mustard gas for the first time in the world against civilian citizens. He was president of the Independent Republic of the Rif, proclaimed between 1921 and 1926.
