20,000 Saharawis started the disobedient camp Gdeim Izik. The Moroccan police forces took him away violently and there were uprisings in cities such as El Aaiun, Smara and El Marsan. For several days there were barricades and hard clashes with the police. Morocco decreed the order of repatriation and, according to data from the Polisario Front, 36 people were killed, 4,500 wounded and 2,000 were arrested in protest.
