The Basque weekly Escualdun Gazeta published its first issue in Los Angeles, USA. Impeller and director was the home lawyer Martin Vincent Biscailuz, one of the first newspapers in Basque. Three numbers were published. On January 16, 1886 he published his last copy because he did not have enough subscribers to pay for the printing. A year later, the diaspora Basques launched the Eskual Herria of California, which was published in Basque for four years.
