The car company Epsilon proved to have scammed. In Ibarretxe's term of office, it was a project sponsored by the PNV that aimed to create a Formula 1 group. The public institutions contributed 50 million euros to the project, of which 16 corresponded to the debt assumed by the Basque Government as a result of the failure of the company. A court in Vitoria condemned the head of Epsilon, Joan Villadelprat, to take responsibility for the economic failure. It was fined EUR 900,000.
