The Burgos process begins, a war council against 16 ETA members. Death sentences were used. ETA kidnaps German Consul Eugene Bëihl, subjecting his fate to the most afflicted. This echoed the process at the international level. At one point in the trial, Mario Onaindia yelled “Viva Euskadi liberada!” and the rest of the defendants sang Eusko gudariak to judges and the military. The trial designed to give ETA experience became a matter for Franco.
