The Arrasate strikers took the people during the October Revolution and arrested the authorities

The Arrasate strikers took the people during the October Revolution and arrested the authorities. They proclaimed the Social Republic and attacked the Civil Guard's house. The news started coming from outside, but they were very pessimistic and the uprising was going to fail. During the heat, Carlist Congressman Marcelino Oreja, the grandfather of Jaime Mayor Oreja, and the nickname of the Radical Republican Party, Dagoberto Rezusta, were killed. These killings had a major influence on Basque policy. Matxinada mainly involved members of the PSOE and UGT, but also PCE and ANV. Among its effects: brutal repression, the war situation for six months, 200 citizens imprisoned or forced to flee, many tortured, 100 workers from the Union Cerrajera were dismissed and relations between the PNV and the Carlists were broken.
