The US Congress approved the use of the army against North Vietnam. To justify this decision, the president took advantage of the false information that days before the North Vietnamese Navy attacked his warship Maddox. However, this attack did not occur, it was later proved that it was invented by the American soldiers and used as an excuse to fight North Vietnam.
